Litany

Nothing matters to the clouds
Nothing matters to us.
The sky’s too big for them
The land’s too big for us.

They reach with fingers through the air
To touch each other, to hide the sun.

Nothing matters to the clouds
Nothing matters to us.
The sky’s too big for them
The land’s too big for us.

A day turns dark, a cloud hangs over.
It will bear itself no longer.

Nothing matters to the clouds
Nothing matters to us.
The sky’s too big for them
The land’s too big for us.

Every storm is broken by the sun
Who lines the broken edge with gold.

Nothing matters to the clouds
Nothing matters to us.
The sky’s too big for them
The land’s too big for us.

Wind has left us prey to wind,
Wind who made us out of dust.

What sort of dying would we be
If wind were swallowed up?
