reaches its cloud-legs
flaps its cloud-wings

in slow motion.
Above, the eye
of a Chinese dragon

considers not.
Sun rays make its teeth.
Its nose extends.

Fish swim through ice floes.
An eel, an eel
is caught in mid-slither.

Far off, the head of a whale
maybe
a whale that stretches around the world

with a head in the east and a tail in the west
and in the south its belly is hazy and gray
with water and darkness and destiny.

If this were a view of heaven
but this is of earth.

This is the curved edge
of the world.
